Noetics

__NOTOC__
In philosophy, noetics is a branch of metaphysical philosophy concerned with the study of mind as well as intellect. Noetic topics include the doctrine of the agent/patient intellect (Aristotle, Averroes)〔Daniel D. De Haan (2010). ("Aristotle's De Anima: A Common Point of Departure for Averroistic and Thomistic Noetics?" ).〕 and the doctrine of the Divine Intellect (Plotinus).〔Richard T. Wallis. (''Neoplatonism and Gnosticism'' ). SUNY Press, 1992, p. 99ff.〕
==Contemporary use==
Since the 1970s the term "noetics" has been employed by several authors like Dan Brown in ''The Lost Symbol'' and others who write about consciousness and spirituality.
The Institute of Noetic Sciences proposes noetic sciences as "how beliefs, thoughts, and intentions affect the physical world".〔Institute of Noetic Sciences.
Many TV and film creations, such as ''Fringe'' and the ''X-men film series'', have adapted the concepts of "noetic sciences" into creating fantasy and soft science fiction entertainment.
